Why your phone camera is still no match for an actual camera.

This past weekend we experienced the Spring Worm Moon and, being I live in Seattle just being able to see it made it worth standing out in the cold to capture it.

In the first photo below you will see that, indeed, the full moon is visible but there is no detail whatsoever. I took multiple shots using a variety of settings and it might as well have been a streetlight as far as the phone was concerned (in this case my iPhone 12 Pro).

In the second photo you can actually tell that it was the moon. This was taken with my Canon EOS R + Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 S lens at 200mm and cropped down about 50% in post. There were a lot of fast-moving clouds obscuring the moon and the image below was one where I managed to capture it completely clear of obstructions. With the exception of the tree branch which is the blurry thing in front of it but I kind of liked how that worked out.
