After taking a short weekend trip down to Portland to take in the city I found myself wanting to return to Oregon to explore the coast. The week immediately that trip after I convinced my wife that I needed to take a few days and my camera gear and head down through southern Washington down to Astoria, Oregon. This photo was taken on a pre-sunset walk along the Riverwalk on the final night before heading back to Seattle. The long exposure does nothing to show just how dangerous the current in the Columbia River actually is as it enters the Pacific Ocean. The area just west of this photo about 2-3 miles is considered some of the roughest sea conditions in the world.
